They’re Here!!

A month or so ago–my aunt and uncle from Arizona called and let us know that they were coming for a visit. Well, they got here this morning really early. I haven’t seen them yet, and I won’t get to until Saturday. They rented a car and drove straight to Nauvoo, Illinois. They are going to attend the Nauvoo Pageant as well as a session in the Nauvoo Temple tomorrow. They will then spend tomorrow night there, and then drive back up to Chicago on Saturday morning. We will have the rest of the day Saturday with them, all day Sunday and then most of the day Monday. I’m excited to see them–having family around really is one of the most fun things for me!

School Is Coming–Ready Or Not!!

August was going to be my new “Health” month! I’ve worked out the dinner menu for the month–including times that we will be eating out during the move. Next week I have to sit down with the kids and work out their breakfast menu for when school starts. I’m still not sure what to do. Monday I have to make an appointment with the new school–mainly because Jake is going into the Fourth grade, and at some point during the third grade the kids are tested to see if they should be in the gifted program starting in the fourth grade. Jake scored in the top 99% in the country in Math and Science–so in my mind–he really should be in the gifted math program. Jake doesn’t want to be because there will be more homework–but I’m sorry–suck it up baby!! We are going for education here!!

After I get the appointment with the new school, I need to go into the old school and get the transfer paperwork started. School in our new city starts on August 22nd, but we don’t move until September 1st, so for the first week of school we will be driving the kids 1 hour each way to get them to school. So they will have to leave our house before 7 am just to get to school on time. OR–we can wait and miss the first week of school and they will start after we move in! I don’t like the idea of that just because a lot of schools these days have homework after the second or third day, so my kids would not only be the “new kids” they will be behind. So I think we’ll suffer the drive–it is only 8 days!

Then I have to work on school supply lists and pre-registration doctors/dentist appointments! Then the final push for school clothes. The kids need NOTHING!! Except maybe shoes–so it shouldn’t be too hard!

Squashed Pennies!!

I wrote a post not that long ago talking about ’squashed pennies’! I realized during that post, that these really are a fun collectible, and even thought that whenever we were someplace with a penny machine–I would get me one.

Well, we were at Jellystone Park in Warren, Wisconsin these past 5 days–and they had a penny machine! I was so excited as I saw it from across the lobby. What a fun place to get a penny from! So I start to saunter over to check it out—and sadly, it was out of order! ALL 5 DAYS!! I stopped by again just before leaving this afternoon, and it was still broken! I was sad, but cheered myself up a bit with a Yogi Bear key chain! Maybe next year!!
