Kind Of A Scare!!

Last night Barrett fell asleep in the family room. I didn’t mind, especially because it meant that he had actually fallen asleep. So I locked up the house, turned off the lights, and walked him up to bed. Of this I am sure! So I got up this morning to get the boys out the door–and every morning as I pass Barrett’s room and Blake’s room, I sneak in and put their covers back on them. But this morning, Barrett isn’t in his room. So I ran downstairs to see if he was bringing me up a gallon of milk–and he wasn’t. So I checked the family room and living room. No baby. All I could think about was how recently a 2 year old from our city let himself out of the house while his parents were still sleeping, and the parents were later arrested–but even worse than that–it’s COLD outside–and I’m not sure he would survive the chill in his little thermal underwear jammies.

But every door was still locked and the chain lock was in place on every door. So I ran back upstairs thinking maybe he fell off of his bed and rolled under it. Nope–not there! Headed to my room–to see if he found the floor by the bed–Nope-not there! Checked Blakelynn’s room–sometimes he’ll head in and snuggle in her big bed–Nope, not there either! Now it was getting late–and I hadn’t gotten the boys up yet–so I rushed in–woke them up–and continued my search–at a fever pace now. Head in to my room again to see if he’s found the floor on hubby’s side of the bed and to wake the hubby up to help in the search–and again–he isn’t there. I have checked everywhere–and just as panic/curiosity/worry maxes out–I realize that he is asleep at the bottom of the bed, hidden between the dog and the hubby lump.

Oh the relief! Even though the house was locked up tight–and he couldn’t get out–the cars were my next search! As I snuggled him into my blanket, I couldn’t help but kiss him. Worry and all—I was happy to see him peacefully sleeping!
